Kenya safari lodges across the Mara, Amboseli and Samburu
A riverbank tent in the Mara and a rocky villa in Samburu lead to different days in the field. Start with where your drives will take place.

Locate the camp before comparing the room
Rekero sits inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Naboisho lies in the neighbouring Mara Naboisho Conservancy, while Bateleur occupies the Kichwa Tembo private concession in the western Mara. These are distinct bases. Ask each operator to identify the land used for its normal drives and to separate any reserve excursion from activities near camp. An attractive tent photograph cannot tell you which access fees will appear on the invoice.
Tortilis in Amboseli and Saruni in Samburu extend the trip into different landscapes. Treat them as separate stays, with a transfer between regions, rather than nearby alternatives to a Mara room. Our starting suggestion is three nights at the main base before adding another region. This is an editorial comparison of official property information, not a report of personal stays or a ranking based on guest reviews.

Compare the five bases
Public information was checked on 15 September 2026. Where no amount is shown, request a quote for your dates, room type and party. Do not substitute a neighbouring lodge's rate.
| Stay | Actual location | Best fit | Rate and basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rekero Camp | Talek River, inside the Mara reserve | Reserve-based game drives | Quote for selected dates |
| Naboisho Camp | Mara Naboisho Conservancy | Resident wildlife, walks and night drives | US$1,240/person/night, 1 Nov to 19 Dec 2026 |
| &Beyond Bateleur Camp | Kichwa Tembo concession, western Mara | Tented suites and a western Mara base | Quote by date and suite |
| Elewana Tortilis Camp Amboseli | Private conservancy bordering Amboseli | Elephants, mountain views and families | Quote by room and activity package |
| Saruni Samburu | Kalama Conservancy, northern Samburu | Rocky villas and northern Kenya habitats | Quote by date, villa and party |
Separate migration plans from resident wildlife
Asilia describes June through September at Naboisho as a dry-season viewing window, and October through January as a greener period with visiting birds and a quieter atmosphere. Migration movements depend on rainfall. A conservancy booking does not place you beside an active river crossing. Ask the guide which area a migration-focused day would use, how long the return journey takes, and what the alternative is when herds move elsewhere.
For a November trip, compare the Mara's short-rain-season offers before adding Amboseli or Samburu. A lower rate does not establish that roads or activities will match the dry season. Walking, night drives and dedicated photographic vehicles should each be requested explicitly. Child accommodation rules also need a separate check from the minimum age for any particular activity.
Rekero Camp
Rekero's distinguishing feature is its Talek River setting inside the national reserve. It suits a stay built around Mara game drives. That location does not establish where herds will cross during your visit.
Request reserve charges, airstrip transfers, drive frequency and vehicle occupancy. If a particular river area matters, ask the camp to estimate the actual round-trip drive before choosing the length of stay.

Naboisho Camp
Naboisho has nine tents, including family suites, in a conservancy beside the national reserve. Its published package lists meals, house drinks, game drives, night drives, walks and nearest-airstrip transfers.
The dated rate is not live availability. Other conservancy charges, conservation fees, balloons and spa treatments are separate. Request each charge as its own invoice line.

&Beyond Bateleur Camp
Bateleur occupies the Kichwa Tembo private concession beside the Maasai Mara. It is a candidate for travellers seeking tented suites and a western Mara base. Private-land activities and national-reserve visits should be distinguished.
Ask where normal drives operate and how reserve access is charged. Do not interchange its room descriptions or prices with those of the separate Kichwa Tembo camp.

Elewana Tortilis Camp Amboseli
Tortilis offers tents, a Family Tent and a Private House beside Amboseli National Park. Activities use both park and conservancy land. Kilimanjaro views depend on weather.
Families should verify the exact accommodation unit and whether its pool is shared. Separate meals, conservancy activities, national-park drives and entry fees in the quote. An activity appearing on the website does not establish inclusion in every room rate.

Saruni Samburu
Saruni Samburu comprises six villas in community-owned Kalama Conservancy, with access to Kalama and Samburu National Reserve. Treat it as a separate northern Kenya stop.
Villa layouts and entrances differ. Travellers with limited mobility should check the route between their room and communal areas. Confirm reserve travel time, vehicle arrangements and which additional experiences require advance booking.

Request one comparable door-to-door quote
Use the same brief for competing camps, such as two adults sharing for three nights, arriving at the same airport, with a stated maximum number of guests per vehicle. Compare the stay and activities first, then add conservancy charges, domestic flights and transfers. Naboisho's published inclusions distinguish a conservancy bednight fee from other conservancy charges. Preserve those separate lines instead of describing every park fee as included.
With five nights available, a useful enquiry might compare three Mara nights plus two elsewhere against five nights entirely in the Mara. Neither is a confirmed itinerary until flight and road timings are supplied. Changing accommodation consumes part of the day that could otherwise be spent observing. Ask what the second base adds in habitat or activity before paying to move there.
- Which reserve and conservancy visits are included, and who pays each fee?
- How many people share the vehicle, and what does a private or photographic vehicle cost?
- Are airstrip transfers separate from the domestic flights?
- Which activities are available to children of the stated ages?
