Start with four ways to stay in Sichuan

For a first trip to China centred on giant pandas, Sichuan is a useful starting point. This selection covers four hotels with official brand information, spanning the Chengdu Research Base area, central Chengdu, Dujiangyan old town and the Qingcheng Mountain resort area. The recommendations concern location and trip structure; they are not a ranking based on personal stays or an exhaustive list of China's panda destinations. Start with one base and enough time to enjoy its surrounding city before adding another overnight stop.

Chengdu Research Base, Panda Valley in Dujiangyan, the conservation centre's separate Dujiangyan base and Wolong Shenshuping are distinct places. Enter the full destination name when comparing hotel locations. Public visits to managed panda facilities are also different from searching for wild pandas in national park habitat. Booking a room does not automatically provide admission, contact with an animal or access to a particular named panda. Keep the accommodation reservation and the visitor arrangements visible as separate parts of your plan.

Four hotels for different trip priorities

Official information was checked on 15 September 2026. Prices depend on dates, room type and cancellation terms, so use dated quotes rather than a supposed year-round average. The itinerary matches below are editorial suggestions; hotel positioning does not establish that panda tickets or transfers are included.

Confirm the visit before committing to the room

Confirm the exact facility, available visiting date and entrance before booking a non-refundable night. Consult the Chengdu Research Base's official information for that base and Panda Valley, and the relevant conservation centre notices for its separate facilities. Old social-media screenshots are not a dependable source of current admission rules. A hotel's excursion description is not proof that a reservation has been made. For a family, breakfast timing, walking requirements and an opportunity to rest can matter more than panda decorations in a room.

Holiday travel requires checking accommodation, admission availability and road conditions together. A weekday does not guarantee that an enclosure will be open or a particular animal visible. If Wolong Shenshuping is the priority, plan the mountain journey separately, check weather and road notices, and allow flexibility around arrival and departure. Staying near Qingcheng Mountain can be part of a regional holiday, but the shared Sichuan address should not be interpreted as a short or automatic transfer to Wolong.

Crowne Plaza Chengdu Panda Garden

The official hotel page identifies Chengdu Research Base among nearby attractions and places the property in the Poly Park area. It is a useful starting point when that visit leads the itinerary. Travellers spending most days downtown should also compare the journeys back into the city. The Panda Garden name does not mean that pandas live at the hotel.

Match the booked entrance and departure time to transport arrangements. The website lists an area shuttle, but confirm its actual route, timetable and cost for your dates rather than assuming a free panda-base service. Families should also specify breakfast numbers and bedding needs.

Crowne Plaza Chengdu City Centre

Crowne Plaza City Centre represents the downtown option. It suits a stay where the panda visit occupies one day and the remaining time is spent in the city. This is a different location choice from sleeping near the research base: allow a separate journey on the visiting day, and do not interpret a central address as proximity to pandas.

Send the hotel your proposed departure time and ask about breakfast and arranging a car. For a single visit within a two-night city stay, avoiding a hotel change may be worthwhile. For repeated visits, compare the Poly Park area and the total transport cost again.

Holiday Inn Dujiangyan Ancient Town

Holiday Inn Ancient Town suits travellers who want to spend their evenings in Dujiangyan. It provides an alternative to returning to Chengdu after a visit, with Panda Valley and town time grouped into one accommodation stop. The hotel is in the old-town area, so the panda visit still needs transport. The conservation centre's Dujiangyan base is a different facility from Panda Valley.

Give the hotel or driver both the full facility name and the map location. If arriving by rail, confirm the station, luggage transfer and check-in arrangements before choosing a visit slot. Train arrival time is not the time you will reach the panda entrance.

Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain

Six Senses is in the Qingcheng Mountain area and presents suites, villas and architecture drawing on the region. It is a stronger fit when time at the hotel is part of the holiday, such as a Panda Valley visit followed by a day around the resort or mountain area. For a single overnight before sightseeing, consider how much of that accommodation experience you will actually use.

Specify Panda Valley, the separate Dujiangyan base or Wolong Shenshuping when requesting arrangements. An advertised panda experience does not establish that admission, a private car and guiding are all included. Confirm the suite or villa occupancy and breakfast allowance for your actual party.

Begin with two nights and one unhurried visit

With two nights, choose one accommodation base. Stay in Chengdu for a Research Base visit and city time, or stay in Dujiangyan or Qingcheng for Panda Valley and the surrounding area. With roughly four nights, a two-night city stay followed by two nights farther west is a useful structure to compare. These are planning suggestions rather than a fixed tour, and there is no requirement to visit every panda facility on the same holiday. Reducing hotel changes can leave more time for the visit you most want.

For comparable quotes, give each hotel your dates, party size, children's ages and the full name of the panda facility. Add breakfast, extra bedding and transport to the room cost, then compare cancellation conditions. If an excursion is arranged through the hotel, establish who supplies admission and what happens if a booking cannot be secured. Request any language assistance explicitly: a transfer driver and an interpretive guide provide different services. Retain the agreed inclusions with the reservation so they are easy to check before departure.

  • How will we reach our booked entrance, and is breakfast available before departure?
  • How many breakfasts are included, and what do extra bedding and children cost?
  • Who arranges admission, transfers and guiding, and which items cost extra?
  • What happens to the room and excursion bookings if admission or road access changes?
